Obesity in adults has recently become a big issue. With more and more adults becoming obese every day it’s pretty obvious why it’s become such a big deal. People everywhere are now exercising more to get fit, but most the time they forget to improve their nutrition. The obesity rate in adults isn’t the only thing to rise greatly. Teenagers and kids are now facing the same problems with obesity as adults are. The main problems that cause obesity are poor nutrition and a lack of exercise. Many people now are focus on exercising and forgetting how big of a role nutrition plays in weight. Obesity hasn’t been too much of a problem in generations before, but now it’s become a really big issue. Just when I thought it was bad enough for the adults I find out it’s just as bad for kids, maybe even worse because children are less educated. Most kids eat what other kids eat or what their parents eat, so if a parent has bad eating habits already and are unaware of good nutrition they may end up passing their habits on to their kids thinking it has no effect. CDC also states â€Å"Since 1980, obesity prevalence among children and adolescence has almost tripled† (Data and statistics). Nutrition is more important for kids now than ever with all these sweets and artificially flavored foods out there. Since their growing their nutrition needs to be even better because their growing, so how can we let their nutrition become so poor when they need nutrients the most to grow healthy. It seems now a parent must really become informed about the foods they give to their kids because even cereals contain lots of sugars. Nutrition has recently become important to me as well. Just recently I thought I had been eating well, mainly because I was eating just about all the time and everything in my sight. Diego Rivera Essay My artist name is Diego Rivera he is a Mexican painter who produced murals on social themes and who ranks one of my countries greatest artists. He was born in Guanajuato and educated at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts , in Mexico City. he studied painting in Europe between 1907 and 1921, becoming familiar with the innovative cubist forms of the French painter Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. In 1921 Riviera returned to Mexico and took a prominent part in revival of mural painting initiated by artists and sponsored by the government . Believing that art should serve the working people and be eadily available to them , he concentrated on painting large frescoes, concerning the history and social problems of Mexico, on the walls of public buldings. His works during 1930s included frescoes the Ministry of Educational Mexico City and in the National Agricultural School in Chapingo. Rivera was an active member of the Mexican Communist party , and he painted murals in the National Palace , Mexico City 1929, and the Palace Cortes , Cuernavaca1930 . In 1929 Riviera married Frida Kahlo who is now considered to have been a leading 20th century Mexican painter. I think what I like the most the murals that he painted I liked how he rew the Indian people their faces the scenery , the palace and his style. Rivieras murals are rich in archeological detail and painted in sharply outlined , linear style. Most of them have clear , three dimensional figures in a shallow space , although a deep spatial extension of landscape appears at the top of some works . Rivera also executed easel paintings and portraits and designed and built his Mexico City house , the Anahuacalli, which is now a museum housing the extensive collection of pre-Columbian art that he left for Mexican people . I liked the water colors that Riviera used for the murals and the way he painted he pictures . I imagine take him a long time to draw the murals and paint them and drawing the faces . I have seen his murals in the walls in Mexico City and I really think is very hard to draw the murals and I also have seen in the museums alot of pictures that Riviera has drawn and I was really impressed with all his work. Sinbad was now in a large valley full of diamonds as big as his head. Suddenly, big chunks of meat fell down from the heavens and were on top of the diamonds. The birds picked up the meet that contained the diamonds as big as bowling balls and flew away. Sinbad roped some of the big diamonds to his waist and covered himself up with a piece of meat that he through across his back so that the birds would scoop him up. Sinbad was dropped into a nest where he found a man. The man was dropping the meat to have the bird's pick up the meat and he would collect all of the diamonds. Revives DeadPoets In the midst of teaching, my mind often wanders to the great inspiration of Mr. Keating in the film Dead Poets Society.   I first saw this film as an aspiring teacher and was so moved that I cried all the way home.   There was something about those students standing up on their desks in support of their inspirational teacher, defying expulsion, that moved me deeply, . . . and still does. Recently brought me back to that image or, more specifically, to the image of the students of The Dead Poets Society chanting a poem, getting back to the primal nature of rhythmic poetry in a cave near their college prep school.   How?   By what seemed to be a simple question asked by a student: What is your outlook on The Congo by Vachel Lindsay? I was interested in the question and intrigued even further by the first answer, so I decided to reread The Congo and was struck by the verses echo from the movie Dead Poets Society: THEN I had religion, THEN I had a vision. / I could not turn from their revel and derision.  / THEN I SAW THE CONGO CREEPING THROUGH THE BLACK, / CUTTING THROUGH THE JUNGLE WITH THE GOLDEN TRACK. They young men in The Dead Poets Society use this poem properly, I might add, using Lindsays own stage direction and do great justice to this rhythmical chant:   they are simply using spoken language to honor the poets of old, . . . poets of all races. Furthermore, my take on The Congo generally coincides with the rest of academia that chides Vachel Lindsay for being a well-meaning but misguided primitivist.  Ã‚  Ah, if there were just a way to put a  more positive spin on this statement!   I truly believe that Lindsay was doing the African-American race a great service, giving great honor to the absolutely superior rhythm of their music and, therefore, of their poetry. The reality is, however, that living in the turn of the century white world of the late 1800s tends to lend itself to decades of  erroneous assumption, . . . even if he DID discover a very young Langston Hughes at a restaurant.   It is incredibly important to note that Lindsay considered himself to be a staunch advocate for the African-American race!   One wonders why his stress on Their Basic Savagery in this particular poem didnt make him read between the lines just a bit.   A link to the poem is included below, so you can see for yourself. The irony here is, it isnt that the things in The Congo arent true, per se.   (Could this be the very first instance of political-correctness?!?)   It is simply the way it is presented that puts a focus more on the pre-industrialized continent of Africa (which, by the way, is not in itself a bad thing!) instead of the great advancements of the culture, especially in how it has influenced the culture of the Western world. Still, I wanted to explore this subject further, so I asked a friend of mine, Sarah McDowell:   a leading expert in present-day Tanzania.   Here was her take on the subject: Even though the language is pretty derogatory in today’s world, there does seem to be a strange feeling though that the poet actually does have some respect or at least sort of romanticizes  the savages.†   I like that it is so lyrical, but to use mumbo  jumbo and boom boom boom so much in a poem seems sort of  naive to me.   Ã‚  I have a hard time with anything that uses the term savage at all.   I am pretty wary of anything that creates such a strong divide between and Us and Them.   Hard to feel equal and respectful toward anyone that one sees them as Other.   I know that the poem has to be looked at though in its context, and I cut it more slack when I do that.   Very vivid in lyrical form. I was amazed further at Sarah’s take on the poem and how very similar it was to many literary critics because Sarah hadn’t been exposed to anything but the poem itself and, therefore, was not influenced by many critics’ persuasive language in the matter. To me this shows that, even from the standards of modern-day  Tanzania, this older literary criticism of â€Å"The Congo† and consequently of Vachel Lindsay continues to ring true. I may never watch that Dead Poets Society primal cave scene quite the same way again!
